As most of you know, the State of Oklahoma passed a law banning the use of student cell phones in public schools from "bell to bell". This law will go into effect this school year, 2025-2026. Timberlake Public School has worked to revamp their board policy and handbook policy to reflect this new legislation. For Timberlake JH/HS, "bell to bell" will be 8:10am to 3:30pm. During this time, students will not be allowed to possess or use their cell phones. Phones can be left at home, in their cars, or in the school provided cell phone locker that will be kept in the office. Students will not be allowed to have their phone on their person or in their personal locker. Exemptions will be made for medical purposes, but must be documented through a doctor and a 504 or IEP. If you need to reach your student, we encourage you to contact the office and we will get a message to your student or go get them in the case of an emergency. While we know that this will not be a comfortable change, we do believe that it will positively impact each student's education. We encourage you to discuss this change with your student(s) so they are prepared for Thursday. This change will be discussed with students during our opening day meetings. If you have questions prior to Thursday, please reach out to Mr. Dayton. Thanks for your support as we work through this change.

Open House is today, Tuesday, Aug. 12th from 5:00-7:00 at both sites. PTO is once again providing school supplies for students. If your child needs a backpack please scan the QR code and fill out the form. PTO will also be providing a hot dog meal by donation at Jet!

1. State law requires that students do not access to cell phones or other digital devices from "bell to bell." If you would like details on how we will be implementing this requirement, go to page 14 in the student handbook which can be accessed at https://aptg.co/2SQY_H
2. Meal plans: There is currently no method in place to allow the district to fund breakfast and lunch for all students. The expectation remains for families to maintain a positive balance. We urge parents to complete a free & reduced application if there is any chance that you might qualify as it does benefit the district and all Timberlake students greatly. We have a plan in place to assist families with negative balances to bring their balances current. We will be sharing information on that shortly.
3. Transportation: We are in desperate need of part time or full time bus drivers so please reach out to the district if you or someone you know might be interested in helping. We have also seen an increase in behavioral issues on buses which does not help with our driver shortage. This is a reminder that school transportation is a privilege and discipline issues create a safety hazard for all other students. Timberlake has a no tolerance policy on behaviors that disrupt routes and/or create safety issues on school vehicles. The district will stick firmly behind discipline measures that remove students from school vehicles for an increasing number of days for each offense. We appreciate your assistance in driving home the importance of behavior on the road.
Finally, we hope to see everyone at Open House tomorrow night and we look forward to another great school year at Timberlake!

It is crucial for families to continue to complete free and reduced meal applications for the upcoming school year. If you are resistant to applying, please understand that these applications help our district and our students in many ways beyond providing free or reduced meals for individual students. As I'm sure many of you are aware, information was blasted on the news about providing free meals for all public school students for the upcoming school year. We want to be clear to our families that it is highly unlikely that free meals for all students will be a reality for the 2025-2026 school year. I have provided a very thorough explanation of these reports, our child nutrition program, and other areas detailed in the SDE media release at https://5il.co/3m6g4 if you would like further information.
We apologize for the inconvenience but the Child Nutrition application has not yet been released by our vendor as it was released late by the State Department of Education. Families can still complete the enrollment process then we will let everyone know once the lunchroom application has been released.
Online enrollment is now open for the 2025-2026 school year. Details and instructions are attached. The OSSAA physical form can be found at https://5il.co/3m6ap
